Short Fiction inspired by the lack of a Warhak backstory

ok life has beat the snot out of me again this week so my contribution here is week and 1st draft but has what i feel is a solid self contained segment so i am posting. big reveal planed for next post. enjoy

Torch sat up with his one remaining eye burning. Hearing the crunches and not feeling a lot of sensation only made him groan with anticipation. He knew what it would be like he had been wounded a lot. Depending on what you considered luck he also got to recuperate and rehabilitate through the pain into enough of good shape to be sent back out into the fight. Torch spat out a cough and would have smiled if his burned skin face would have moved because he still had four limbs. Not bad for such a brutal unwinnable fight. Gods, Fate, Luck, or skill none of the reasons mattered to the dead or the living. What was now at this moment was real and right now the urine running down his leg seemed a refreshing sensation enough to figure the wounds did not extend fully down his body. The scavengers would be arriving soon. The quiet after the battle drew them in like files to honey. With good legs he had a chance to find enough medical supplies and anesthetic to help him make it back to where ever the Cadashian encampment was. From what he could see luck was with him and against him as no one was left at this out post. No one to finish the half job done by the flame throwing brigade that had besieged the post. Unfortunately this also meant no one to help him if they had won. He had enough experience to know he had very little time before the pain would find a way to remind him of the damage he had put himself in the way of. Grunting and cursing he kicked his way out of the mound of carrion he had seemed so much a part of a few moments ago. Dazed and off balance Torch stumbled to the side of the cannon embankment. The partial word of unintelligible meaning that slurred out of his lips broke the quiet dusty smoke filled air. The wind stirred in miniature tornados from the exhaust of the overturned Rat. Exactly what he needed and unable to use it the humor was poignant and meaningless with no one around to laugh. One hope existed. Right the vehicle or die of exposure. Stumbling serpentine fashion towards the shimmering image of the Rat Torch breathed as deep as he could to deliver some sort of power to his legs. The Rat lay in a triangular angle with the front side touching the ground leaning diagonally on a boulder with the rear seat jutting unnaturally into the air. Squatting and rolling into place underneath the jeep next to the disfigured corpses Torch propped his legs knees against his chest in preparation to right the vehicle. His eye widened like an opaque saucer as he saw the unmistakable shape and light of a landmine. Sputtering spittle and what would sound more like a groan then laugh he relaxed as he recognize the ordinance as one of his. With a little luck it would either blow and end his pain or remain patiently in wait for another victim. An almost full breath filled his lungs as he pushed with his legs against the Rats upturned end. Using his back as much as his legs he started to slide as the rat began to roll. The sickening wet sloshing sound meant he was not as unharmed as he might have believed. The instant cold and shock that racked his body told him as it did to all within earshot his nerves had been exposed after losing the burnt layer of crisped flesh from his back. With nothing in his body left to vomit his body simply rocked with pain and convulsions. The dirt blowing in his nose making him cough revived him from the blackness and with nothing but determination forced himself up and splayed into the driver’s seat of the rat. The sun was in his eyes and it was going down he would travel as far as the rat would take him in the into the vicinity he had come from just a few hours ago. Only daring just barely to wonder whether or not life was still laughing at him and sending him directly into the rear lines of the Evishians or into the broken arms of his comrades.

If you haven't still picked a name for steve since people frown apon roland make his name Miles Teg. If any of you have read heretics of dune you would know he is the grand bashar and was one of the most feared bashars. He could step down on an enemy planet and the enemies would be so frightened of being destroyed they would surrender but in other casses he had to massicure them in battles.

ok I had to switch machines. i cant video edit on my laptop. soooo with out further ado here it is.

Jazz and Skrag flew through the wastelands in the rat. Smoke and acrid air popped up from burning vehicles and decimated husks of outposts. Skrag felt like a loser who had dated the Generals daughter the night before on days like this. Life expectancy in a rat was very low. Ridding gunner position required extra nerves and or lack of concern beyond even the most rugged. SPUD duty. Only freaks of that caliber were usually capable or dispensable enough to assign to this duty. Maybe they were no longer being cloned and sent to fight along with the regular evishian force. Skrag rubbed bug guts from his goggles as Jazz skided up to a burning fortification. The battle may have been won but snipers could still be lurking. Sure the rats are fast Skrag thought but its easy pickings for the deeply embedded snipers. Skrag spit and a tiny puff of decaying dirt puffed up in retaliation to the impact. Jazz looked up and drew his knife while jumping out of the drivers seat. The smell of burnt flesh and gun powder mingled around them refusing to let the softer sweeter air through. They approached the small gun embankment as silently as humanly capable despising the sound of their feet on the lose soil. Most of the scavengers had left the fire and fume. to much for most organisms’ to tolerate for such little substantial reward. Skrag grimaced as a rat scurried off as much angered with his own noise as with the rats function. 100% cleansed. The embankment would not be recycled at all. The SPUD’s were fearless but not practical to Skrag. The embankment had logistical value why raze it to the ground. Jazz kicked and poked at the carrion pile “ humph “ he spat out “ garbage nothing here worth a …” Skrag cut him off with a quick sharp look. “ Advertise your bulls eye when your with someone else Jazz” Skrag shot at him. Jazz scrunched his face while squeezing out a barb “ You out here today Skrag could be your lu….” The double taping sound moved Skrags legs without waiting for the command before Jazz hit the ground propelling his still beating heart behind a substantial remaining bit of wall. “nothing like saying the obvious Jazz” Skrag grunted as he rolled hoping his sense of direction was better then his draw for duty. Trapped so close the rat and with less hope then a real one staring down a hungry dog. Rubbing his rough dirty face with his hands as if forcing the solution lose from his mind Skrag spat out “ guess its someone lucky day Just not ours Jazz you lump” Still breathing short hot breaths Skrag realized that the one dirction the sniper was directly on the other side of the rubble that had been the outpost. He looked at the rat and smiled. He would tempt a traped victim with the option of escape and snipe him at the wheel. “Swap meat situation” “ ok snipe lets see how sharp you are” tying off his shirt against a pole and then onto his arm to prevent the blow from dragging him away from cover Skrag as if in slow motion began to expose his legs beyond the rubble. Apperaing as if he were slowly crawling backwards on his elbows and knees. Got about 2 to 3 seconds to try and look if I can Skrag thought. Sniper wants the pirze not the runners up badge skrag was thinking and decided to see if he could shake it up a little.
With a violent jerk he kicked at the dust and held his legs taught for a second. Then with one sweeping motion jerked one leg back in. Topper squeezed off just enough force from his finger to lose the bullet at the remaining leg. What ever this evishian dummy was jerking on would be tougher to hold with one leg. He smiled as he watched the blood splatter in the small cross hairs. It did not pull him upright as Topper had hoped but would create a greater temptation for the rat now that he was losing time. Fluidly like exercising a muscle though its range of motion Topper filled the rifles chamber with another round. The last of 5. “Cheap Bastards “ he spat out of the side of his mouth. How could any one fight with no ammo he thought. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed something flickering like a lightening bug realizing what that vile green shimmer was gave Topper just enough time to squeeze off his last round and hopefully blow the rats gas tank. In large concessive puff of smoke filled the hole where the sniper had been was now rubble but before Skrag could field tie a tourniquet around his hemorrhaging leg a deafening single note of rushing air and the accompanying blast of heat and debris flying off the rat caught Skrag or what was left of him in its burst.

so no reveal this week but some clues. i was unhappy with the acronym and decided to hold until i am very happy.

fogot to update sory.

any way you get a update and a half for that. :-)

The last unit coming off the adrenaline unit Miles Teg inserted the needle into the subjects head. Smoothly sending the plunger into the end of the hypodermic pumping toxic energy into the subjects underdeveloped mind Teg turned. A slim rapier like figure stood in the shadows of the laboratory. What amazed many who afforded themselves the luxury of questions was how powerful and weak one could be at the same time. Killer and victim in one body. Raspy whispery voice the shadowed figured Instructed Teg to speed up development. “ They are out of control at best now what do you want me to…..” the displeased sigh emanating from the disguised and threateningly powerful creature stopped Teg dead in his sentence. You will have them ready , you will do it or someone else will . Hissed the figure light disappearing into it as it rustled to the lab door and out blessedly away from Tegs vicinity.
The subject jerked and spasm drawing Tegs attention away from the visitation and back into the void of work. More sedatives to alleviate the minds resistance to cultivation and the body began to relax and process chemical messages. Teg wiped his brow with an unclean sleeve and then unconsciously stroked the subjects arm in a parentally calming gesture. Children Teg thought it funny “yes these are my children, my insane battle frenzied children.” Sliding the subject back into the wall of windowed rectangular coffin like compartments the yellow letters identifying its contents were revealed to spell “S.P.U.D” the associating batch and tag id’s with generation and other unique identifiers in smaller stamps as well for better identification tracking and evaluation. Teg wiped his brow a chill took him and he actively rubbed his arms against the opposite biceps grimacing as if forcing the thought and chill from him. A large wide spread concussive explosion rocked the area and shook dirt form the ceiling into Tegs head and clothes. He knew if the Cadashians continued their progress he would be forced to further accelerate this batch of SPUD’s . Shaking his head as if unwilling to admit or see failure or its consequences he jerkingly moved towards the supposedly secure door and out into the natural light of the world. Leaving behind the green and aqua underground whose bubbling containers and smells reminded him of the ocean.

Hornet laughed as his Raven screamed down towards the Evishian stronghold. His blood raced through him in unnatural ways as the Raven was forced to make swift changes and steep loops. The last few days had favored him and the 5th Raven Wing. They were filling the sky with Evishian blood and smoke. They were clearing all support away from the Evishian positions. The tides turn was unexpected but not neglected. Pain, lack of equipment, bad geography all of which considered against the Chenovians had been overcome. The opposing soldiers seemed timid almost lacking in the drive which had won them so much recently.
