Ok tek, no cheating, and everyone else, no cheating...

This is a picture of the Australian Flag...... but, do you know what the stars represent?

NO CHEATING AND NO LOOKING IT UP.... I only knew what the right side stars were, and hearing a song on the radio today made me think of this... <- thats your hint

If I recall from high school maps, there are 6 provinces in Aus, so I'm guessing that's it.

Vash you are on the right track,
tb, i would have loved to hear your guess !
and gab, yes the small 5 pointed star is important also.

ImageImage

The 5 stars represent the "Southern Cross" (my hint about the song I heard that reminded me of this) and the AU flag uses the small 5th star in the southern cross

heres the breakdown:
The Union Jack in the upper left-hand corner of the Australian flag serves as a reminder that the continent of Australia, which was unified in 1901, was originally a commonwealth of six British subject states that were formerly separate.

The stars of the Southern Cross appear on the right-hand side of the flag. This constellation, an important navigation aid, is honored on the flag because it helped early settlers reach the new continent.

Directly under the Union Jack is the Commonwealth Star. While there were originally six points on the star to signify six federal states, another point was added in 1909 to represent the Northern Territory.

All because I heard that Crosby Stills & Nash song on the radio, So I had to look up the constellation to see how the cross layed out, then realized it was on teks flag :laugh2:

wow cool nad informative post fish. my guess's would have been nonsensical and silly. i was completely stumped by AU's flags history. although my one thought was to having to do in some way or shape or form as to emerging from british rule. cool stuff about the navigation.

Hey fish you seem to be obsessed with australia. You should move here. We get great pay for stuff ;). Like 18 bucks an hour for being a waiter. which is still 16 USD. and our minimum wage is about 13 USD. Plus look at that shit. we also have healthcare that isn't rubbish.

his is 45 minutes away from my place.

and look at that

But alas, we have the aussie kryptonite.

There is no cherry coke in australia.

but hey, check out how many aussie cities are in the top 10 here ;)

ha your funny tek :haha:

Things I like about AU:
Cool ass monay (not cheap paper)
Hot girls with funny accents

Things I hate about AU:
You have fkn snakes that can kill just by staring at you
To far away

So if your minimum wage is that high, it must cost a hell of alot to live there.

Okay it's true there are snakes that launch venom from their eyes, but that's only in the northern territory. it's worth pointing out the spider in that photo is a huntsman, they're not poisonous to humans and mostly harmless. They're pretty much house-spiders. It's also worth pointing out how little you see snakes in australia. I've only ever seen whip snakes and only once did i see a tiger snake. The tiger snake was actually just outside a restaurant in Queensland. it had just eaten a rabbit, it was kind of cool. But aside from that it's a pretty good place to live, it is annoying hearing americans whine about petrol price. When the whining started you guys still paid a 1/4 what we did. now it's more like 1/2. yeah living cost is a little higher. but is that not the most beautiful city you've ever seen.

nah they're fine, they don't live in hotels anyway. We get them pretty often because we're surrounded by bush. but seriously most of them aren't that big.

http://brokenbay.files.wordpress.com/20 ... spider.jpg
this is the average size of them. and they're just like tarantulas, totally harmless to humans. They're like 8 legged cats.

I do remember a story that happened to a friend of our family. She had bought a house in NSW just behind a hill. She loved the place, thought it was a great house, la dee dah etc. One day she was in her kitchen looking out at the hill and she saw 2 little fuzzy legs poking out of a hole in the hill. she thought it was a little kitten stuck in a hole in the hill, so she thought "yeah i'll go rescue the cute kitten" she goes up to the hole, and it wasn't a kitten but an 11 inch wide bird eating spider.

Image

Turns out the hill was home to a gigantic network of bird eating spider nests. Still harmless to humans but i wouldn't feel too good living there :yeh:

big freaking spiders and killer jelly fish. man i would walk around in a plastic bubble and tell people to pay into an electronic account and hire someone to shake hands for me. expelling my bowls might be an issue. not sure i have that part worked out. its nice to be on top of the food chain untill you bump into an evelutionary marvel like spiders and snakes that are just so Dont give a f*$% attitude that makes you humble yourslef a bit.
