So how's Fedora been working for you?

So how's Fedora been working for you?

Postby 44CalibreSunlight » Mon Jul 28, 2008 10:48 pm

I'm getting tired of lame old Ubuntu, I want to move back to my beloved OpenSUSE but I kind of want to try Fedora as well.

How is the package managing system? And, was it simple or difficult getting audio codecs to work?

my Ubuntu package works better then my Fedora for checking sights like this. I have really not tinkered with the RPM's to install the plugin so i can log in. Had way to much going on.
So Sadly not so good but its stabel.

I did make an offer to stick and it will be good to anyone if thery want it. when things get going again I am planing on buying the YDL update from the sight so i can update My PS3 partition. when i buy it i will burn and send any one interested a copy. :-)

the old YDL has a bug that makes you reboot and pause the loader at the OS option to load back into PS3 game OS which is a pain so hopefully the New Pay for only version they have available fixes that.

ok you are using some sort of programg ( probably a browser ) to view things on the internet.
the device you use to browse say PC uses software that enables a interface for you to issue commands to create actions and obtain results.
the thing that provides that interface is the desktop ( say Windows XP or Mac OS 10 )
What Fedora provides is that but its free to download and install. No charge to users and the code that makes it all come together is open.

Open meaning you can edit the OS and change the way it functions. ( If you ahve the skill i am not that good ) window Mac are close OS. you are for the most part not allowed to edit the OS kernal or o OS features. we are techniclly using something we pay for but are unalbe to tweak.

In a way of seeing things I dont trully own this copy of vista. becase as an owner i should have the right to do what i want with it and have access to the code that makes it all work together to provide this Grapical User Interface we all are familar with.

well that is sort of a good explanation but i am glad i kind of got the idea across. You can tell i am not a teacher. :-) but it esentially a free OS but they money is earned on the service / support side. again i am angry with my lacking education there but its slowly building.

well MS OS Is closed for the most part. I mean you can drill down into the registry and mess about with dll and rlb but it s not like you can recomplie the kernal and debug and compile and assemble it. if you can please dont say so i dont want to get you in trouble.

I like the idea of how a lot of linux projects are supported. but you have to be willing to commit to learning about text commands to be really at home with a lot of lInux distros.
