my two favourites are sonic 2 and SMW 2 yoshi's island. so sonic i guess. his recent games have been sucky (sawnich heroooeeess) and especiallly next gen sonic (shudder) but unleashed looks kinda cool. part sidescrolling, part Sonic and the secret ring (i liked that one a lot) so yeah

Yeah, that makes sense, but I'm young, and didn't play any side scrolling platformers, cept for Mario on the Gameboy.

speaking of all these sidescrolling char's of old. have any of you seen the new sonic game theyre making. it actually looks good. its mostly sidescrolling and SATSR style views for the rest with seamless transition. it actually looks fun again. o.0 looks clean too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JhZOfgj7Qc

I dont want to jump on the hype train but the chatter i have seen is positive. I would love the Sega team to go back more to a traditional action game then the action rpg sonic mixes that were the last few itterations.

I never try to buy tickets for the hype express as quick as i can, i was apprehensive when i saw the first leaked photos and info so when the official trailer came out i was sold. i thought if they ont muff this up (well they kinda did with the whole wolf sonic) it could save the series. they shouldve left it without the wolf thing. i wonder when sonic team will realise they dont need to add extra crap like that they just need to make it fun. maybe then the sonic games will be able to regain the original soul of the game as the entire series is on the edge of a cliff scrabbling for grip. it definately looks good though, so i cant help but hope for the best.

I agree jsut loops and speed and jumps and boss's that dont cheat. I dont have to raise furr monkeys to have fun. i dont have to upgrade my shoes with the emerald of chaos to level nine. iI have RPGS for that. just go back to basics. and if that meas pusedo 3d and 2d scrolling then more power to you. not everything has to be an open enviroment.

i couldnt possibly agree any more than i am right now. that is one of the reasons why i got so pissed when i found out about this whole werewolf sonic thing. why not just have it him, running and jumping, speed and skill and an implyed storyline instead of a forced one. platforming purity and speed fix. thats what the original one was about. oh and for the love of god sega, if hes going to open his mouth at least make it ryan drummond. not that skilless cringe supplying jason anthony griffiths. >:0 he makes me want to drown bunnies.

Nobody has even brought up Donkey Kong yet. I loved that game as a kid.

Isn't teens just a more refined level of kids? Maybe more mature kids (sometimes), but still kids.

Uh it depends, most 18 years olds aren't kids but they are teens. Our age is probably both kids and teens.

I did not mean to say that my list was all inclusive just what i could think of at that moment. DK is iconic.

yes, the donkey kong gameon the snes. donkey kong country i think. i played it on my friends snes, it was great.
I was thinking about some of the old games in the sonic series like sonic 2 etc. and i suddenly got pissed about sonic unleashed. even though 3d hasnt worked well for sonic so far, why should the series be taking a step backwards when it needs to go forwards. wheres my semi-open world sonic game along the lines of the sonic CD intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRaly9tk8v0 no matter how many times i see this video its sense of speed, agility and well...cool exuded by its content never ceases to amaze me. wheres sonic BD. that speed. that overall feel captured on a blu-ray

Re: what type of platformer are/ were you ?
this is hardly a sympathetic agreement but Mario is not doing perfectly. some cammera angles still plague the 3d world and are obstrucive to the player.
Yeah sonic was all about speed and doing loops. thats what they should be trying to capture.
Hell Burnout paradise does pretty good with speed and open enviroments.
