Ya it must be cool to get out and do stuff like bat counts. Especially the whole bats flying all around you thing.

there are supposed to be some huge populations down by the TExas Mexico borrder but i have never ventured thhere. I saw it on tv though looked really cool. i htink there is a balcony people gather on above the cave and wathc the mass of bats fly out at dusk.

those would be Mexican Freetail Bats, when the flights start at dusk it will look like smoke pouring out of the cave entrance. Doppler Radar even picks up the bat flights. The populations in some caves are in the millions.
You cannot go into freetail caves without dressin up like a scuba diver, the ammonia smell is powerful and the guano is waist deep. Not all caves house large numbers of bats. Some house none. The caves we mainly survey house hibernating bats, they are generally safe from noxious fumes. I will scan some of my cave pics and post them. (I never take my digital camera in a cave)

yeah it is worth it imo..if anyone ever finds a bat like in their house, garage, school, etc. just keep in mind that it is LOST. Get a fishing net or bird net and gently catch it, wear gloves and you can safely take it outside and turn it loose. Dont mind it screaching and screaming at you cause it is just scared.

nooo noo noo noo noo its ok noo not gonna be doing anything like that. I am used to they spiders as i know where they like to put thier webs at night. i have gotten good at avoiding them. I dont want to wrestle with a scorpion any time soon or any sanke that rattles gets the right of way.
